My name is Ashley, and I’m currently navigating my third year of university, where I’m pursuing a degree in criminology/criminal justice. Alongside that, I plan to at least minor in biology. I’ve always been interested in true crime growing up, as I’ve watched many true crime documentaries and crime shows. I also loved science growing up and really enjoyed doing labs. So, I know that by combining these two interests of mine, I would love to do crime lab work as my future career.

Other than being a full-time student, I love fashion so much! I would describe my style as more grunge-like; people like to call me emo, but I wouldn’t really agree with that description. I prefer a mix of edgy and vintage, which is why I usually tend to thrift my clothes or buy on Depop, which is basically online thrifting. I find so many unique articles of clothing that I would not find at a mall. Not only that, but it’s also a more environmentally friendly option. I also cannot ever justify spending exorbants amount on clothing.

I also love to buy and collect cute trinkets to decorate my room! I typically go to stores like Popmart or Teso Life and buy blind boxes. My room is mainly decorated with cute plushies and figurines; oddly enough, most of my room is pink. I used to have pink hair, so I got everything pink. I still love to dye my hair, and fyi my hair is blue and brown. Although I think after I have this color for a bit, I’m going to dye it black. It’s been a long run of dyeing my hair, but my hair is pretty dead, so I sort of need to stop.

In my free time, I love to play all sorts of video games. I’ve been playing video games for as long as I can remember. I have four older brothers, so you can imagine I grew up as a tomboy. My favorites at the moment are League of Legends and Palworld. My main role in League is support, but I play more for fun, so I’ve been trying other roles. My favorite game of all time has to be Hollow Knight and The Binding of Issac. Just note that these games are so fun and addictive; honestly, I’m trying to play less, as the semester is really getting started now.

Now I’m taking a journalism class because it does fulfill my gen ed credits, but I also thought that it would be an interesting class. I have always held another level of respect for journalists because they are always so passionate. I’m also a terrible writer, so I know I could never get into it, so I admire them from afar. I definitely prefer to consume my media-related and journalism content via video or audio form. It’s usually the main way I can truly absorb the content and not just skim through everything. But in this class, I hope to learn something, as I acknowledge I’m not really the type to read the news and such. So I wonder how hard it is to be a journalist, especially nowadays. Is journalism strong, and what are the biggest sources of journalism? How does one even get started on their journey?
